Frequently Asked Questions

What is your favorite color?

Hopper Green™, duh.

Can my kids ride?

Riders of all ages are welcome, although according to our insurance agent, Milton, we must insist that riders under age 13 are accompanied by an adult.

How much does this cost?

Depends!  We operate our seasonal shuttle bus service in Montauk completely free, thanks to funding from the Town of East Hampton.  If you’re looking to ride the South Fork Commuter Connection (SFCC) to skip traffic on your way to work, well, that’ll cost you $3.25 each way for the train ticket, but the good news is that price includes the shuttle bus rides!  And let’s be honest, that’s probably less than your cost of gas sitting in traffic for an hour.  More importantly, can you really put a price on convenience?  Finally, if you’re looking for a private charter, well, that depends on a lot of factors, so please fill out the form on our site.

What about my dog?

We can only allow an animal if it is enclosed in a container and carried in a manner which would not disrupt other passengers. When the vehicle is in motion, the carrier must be on the passenger’s lap or on the ground in front of the seat, not blocking any aisle or exit.

This does not apply to working dogs for law enforcement agencies, to service animals, or to animals which are being trained as service animals and are accompanying persons with disabilities, or to animals which are being trained as service animals. All service animals and animals being trained as service animals must be harnessed or leashed and must always remain under control of their owner.

OK, and where can I catch the Hopper?

Check out our Stops page for the most up-to-date listing of our stops, or check out our mobile app on iOS and Android.  If you’re riding the SFCC and looking to get your workplace added to the bus route, just drop us a line at hello@hamptonhopper.com and we’ll do our best to oblige!

Hmmm, traffic, what about that?

It is true, we will not be able to outfit the Hoppers with giant grasshopper legs or helicopter rotors until, umm, probably next year.  But, instead of you sitting in traffic behind the wheel, or playing designated driver roulette with your friends, we figure relaxing or dancing to your sick playlist on board is sweeter.

Intrigue. When do you guys operate?

We’re on the road now!  Our Free Montauk Shuttle operates from 10am-10pm, 7 days a week, last weekend in June until Labor Day!  Detailed operating hours and schedule available here.

What about the South Fork Commuter Connection?  Well, good news, that operates weekdays all year round!

As more people ride, and our lore spreads across the land, we’ll be able to add more buses and expand our routes and operating times.

Your buses are awesome, can I charter them?

Does the Pope live in the woods?  Wait, I mean, does a bear sh….. nevermind.  Of course!  We are beloved by brides, grooms, wedding planners, wedding venues, and wedding guests far and wide.  We’re also a huge hit for corporate outings, private parties, and just about any situation where you want to move more than a carful of people around in style.

Just check out our charter page and please fill out the form for a quote!  Fair warning: weekends in wedding season (April-June and September-October) book up fast, so don’t delay.

Very nice! I’m in. Where do I go, and when?

That’s the easy part!  Simply download our app on iOS or Android, and it will tell you everything you need to know, including exact stop locations, pickup times, and where the Hoppers are.  You can also check our stops & schedule pages on the website.

What the @#$% does “SFCC” stand for?

Let’s sound it out together.  Ready?  South.  Fork.  Commuter.  Connection.

Yes, but what does it MEAN?????  Good question.  If you work in the Hamptons, but you live west of the Shinnecock Canal, then you are well versed in the universe of pain that is traffic getting to and from the Hamptons.

So rather than putting more steering wheel scars on your forehead, why not give it a try?  You park your car at Speonk, Westhampton, or Hampton Bays LIRR station in the morning.  Jump on the train, whiz past the traffic, and when you get off in Southampton, Bridgehampton, East Hampton, or Amagansett/Montauk, we’ll take you to where you work in one of our buses.  Learn more at sfccLIRR.com.

Need someone to break it down for you, or need to get your workplace added to the bus route?  We got you, just shoot us an email at hello@hamptonhopper.com.  ✌️

Do I need to make a reservation?

Nope.  Just show up at the stop and hop on!  We can generally accommodate parties as large as 20 people.  If your group is even bigger, congrats on the enormity of your popularity!  Oh, and just shoot us an email at hello@hamptonhopper.com and we may be able to make a special arrangement for you.

How did you guys get so cool?

Sorry, we can’t publish that.  You’ll have to come find us in person and ask!

You presumptuous SOBs, install another app on my phone, I will not.

I’m not sure that’s a question?  Wait, should I have not used a question mark there?   Anywho, that’s cool, we understand.  Whether you’re 256 exabyte iPhone is already full, or you’re just stuck in the 90s and have a deeply-rooted, crippling phobia of mobile technology, you can check our stops and estimated arrival times from our website.

Why don’t you just have a timetable that I can grab?

We do!  You can see it on our schedule page…But, have you seen the traffic out here?  We’ll do our best to provide hourly service but we encourage riders to use the app to track exactly where the buses are!
